Reflux After A Gastric Sleeve
The gastric sleeve is considered a high pressure operation. We’re going from a low pressure full sized stomach and squeezing it down to a skinny tube. From the laws of physics it’s going to create higher pressure. Granted there’s less acid in there. But, there is a small percentage of patients that suffer from worsened acid reflux after surgery.
For those patients we typically go in again and look at their esophagus and their stomach pouch using endoscopy and if they do have signs of inflammation there, we might talk about revision surgery, which could include converting the sleeve to a gastric bypass which is an anti-reflux operation.
